Sacred Heart Medical Center (Spokane, WA) 

What CHD does/did your child have? Tricuspid Atresia with a Right Hypoplastic Ventricle, ASD, VSD 

What was done to correct this CHD? BT Shunt, Bi-Directional Glenn, Fontan 

Where was your child's surgery done? Sacred Heart Medical Center, in Spokane WA, now officially a children’s hospital 

Who did the surgery? Surgeon Dr. Jack Leonard; Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Pamela Burg

When was the surgery done? BT Shunt 4/01, Glenn 7/01, Fontan 7/03 

What did you think of the hospital and staff? Usually they are wonderful, and I trust them, however, during the Fontan, I was somewhat disappointed as they didn’t keep him sleeping enough so he removed his own chest tube (yeowch!)  But generally speaking we’ve been happy. 

What did you think of the surgeon? We love Dr. Leonard, and honestly wouldn’t allow anyone else to operate on his heart if given a choice.

Would you take your child back to this facility/surgeon? Absolutely!

Do you have any advice for others looking at this facility/surgeon? It’s a wonderful hospital, and the Dr’s are wonderful.  Just be very assertive when staying there, don’t allow the nurses to not take your concerns seriously, there’s just a few that might not.  Mostly they are wonderful!

 Tacoma General Hospital/Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital (Washington)

What CHD does/did your child have? Severe Pulmonary Valve Stenosis, Mild tricuspid valve stenosis and regurgitation, small secundum atrial septal defect.

What was done to correct this CHD? Valvuloplasty (2)

Where was your child's surgery done? Tacoma General Hospital/Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, Tacoma, WA

Who did the surgery? Dr. Steven B. Wolfe (both times)

When was the surgery done? At 28 hours old, and again in August of 2002 (5 months old)

What did you think of the hospital and staff? Wonderful - very supportive and informative.

What did you think of the surgeon? Love him. Very calm and reassuring.

Would you take your child back to this facility/surgeon? We do every 6 months.

Any advice for others looking at this facility/surgeon?  The team of 3 doctors has split from Tacoma/Mary Bridge, but is still affiliated.  We have not decided if we will stick with the hospital or the Cardio team, but both have been very good to and for us.
