What CHD does/did your child have? Tetralogy of Fallot, isolated left pulmonary artery, distal pulmonary artery stenosis, aortic flip
What was done to correct this CHD? BT shunt initially, patch to connect left pulmonary artery, patch on pulmonary valve, angioplasty of left and right pulmonary arteries
Where was your child's surgery done? Emanuel Hospital, Portland, OR
Who did the surgery? Dr. Albert Starr, Dr. Iguidbashian
When was the surgery done? Oct 2001 and Aug 2002
What did you think of the hospital and staff? Amazing!
What did you think of the surgeon? Amazing! Genius, great with families
Would you take your child back to this facility/surgeon? Absolutely
Do you have any advice for others looking at this facility/surgeon? I would recommend our surgeons and cardiologist. Emanuel is very family friendly.

Norwood surgical procedure
Angioplasty to correct coarctation of aorta
Glenn surgical procedure
Fontan surgical procedure is planned for Sept 04
Where was your child's surgery done? Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon
Who did the surgery? Dr Ross Ungerleider
What did you think of the hospital and staff? Hospital is very family-friendly, with many amenities (all except NICU have private rooms). The staff is compassionate, very experienced and top-notch.
What did you think of the surgeon? Dr Ungerleider is an amazing person in addition to being a wonderful surgeon. He has been operating for 20 years and is very knowledgeable and caring.
Would you take your child back to this facility/surgeon? As long as Dr Ungerleider is at DCH, we would never consider going elsewhere. We know people who have moved from other states in order to be treated by him.
Do you have any advice for others looking at this facility/surgeon? If possible, meet with the surgeon in person and tour the hospital. Your gut instinct will tell you which hospital is right for you and your child.
