Where was your child's surgery done? :: Kosair Children's Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky
Who did the surgery? :: Dr. Mitchell / Dr. Erle Austin
When was the surgery done? :: Jan 27 2005
What did you think of the hospital and staff? :: Amazing! They made us feel like our child was the only one they had to treat. I don't think I can remember a shift where someone didn't ask us if we needed anything or had any questions that needed to be answered. Very caring and companionate as well as excellent at what they do.
What did you think of the surgeon? :: We have been told by others that these two cardiothoracic surgeons were the best in the area and now we believe it. They were very patient to answer our questions and explain in layman's terms what they had done or what needed to be done. They also made sure that we knew that we could call them with questions that might come up later and they would get back to us with answers as soon as they could. (They did too.)
Would you take your child back to this facility/surgeon? :: Absolutely, without hesitation
Any advice for others looking at this facility/surgeon? :: All the doctor's we had were great to answer questions and return our calls but we found that on days where you were awaiting critical information or needed answers fast it was best to be at the hospital when the doctors made rounds. In our case we asked the nurses when the doctor's made rounds on the particular floor which happened to be around 6:00 a.m. Either my husband or myself tried to be there for rounds as often as we could. That way we had all the different doctor's together and they would answer our questions right then. Also, it really helped to hear what the plan for the day was...medicines our son was being weaned off of or beginning, levels they were watching, how stable or unstable all his vitals were...We felt much more aware of our sons day to day condition when we were able to be there at the doctor's rounds.
